Mike Oswald (L) and Sam Engelhard (R) give 10 Delta High School students a hands-on look at the real world of industrial hygiene during their 2-hour workshop, "Got Safety?" this morning at Washington State University Tri-Cities. Mike is holding the Scott AV 3000 mask; Sam is showing a HEPA filter cartridge and holding an MSA Ultra-Elite.
We’re super excited to be part of STEM Con 2012 this week — a collaboration between the Washington State STEM Education Foundation, Delta High School, Washington State University Tri-Cities, and Columbia Basin College, as well as local companies and professionals that deal in STEM, like us!
STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
STEM Con 2012 is a week-long conference/convocation that offers students in the Mid-Columbia region to engage with STEM professionals and have hands-on experiences that will further their understanding of and excitement for STEM in the real world.

Delta High School STEM students get a first-hand look (and feel!) of what it's like to be an occupational safety professional. (L to R): Zach Martin, Lisa Bratton, and Avika Sharma.
This week, some of our best professionals are volunteering their time to offer two workshops as part of STEM Con 2012.
- The first, held this morning at Washington State University Tri-Cities and led by Sam Engelhard and Mike Oswald, was titled “Got Safety?” and focused on industrial hygiene and occupational safety.
- The second, being held this Thursday (May 24), also at WSU, is titled “Radioactivity is Everywhere!” and will help students understand more about naturally-occurring and man-made radiation and radioactive materials. Senior Health Physicists Mark Fishburn and Susan Winslow are leading this workshop.

Here at Dade Moeller, we know that “science in the schools” is vital to encouraging the scientists of the future, and that some of the students with whom we interact today may be our co-workers in a few short years! We value highly our volunteer efforts in our local schools, and we encourage our employees to get into the schools and contribute to the STEM education of our nation’s youth!
