Regulatory Compliance & Licensing

Radioactive materials licenses and other forms of licenses issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or Agreement States are required for most operations that use or produce radioactive materials or use radiation emitting equipment. These materials and applications can include:

Our experts have experience in developing license applications, license amendments, and supporting documents such as standard operating procedures and radiation protection programs.

We have both developed and reviewed preliminary and final safety analysis reports to demonstrate that facilities meet safety basis requirements for protecting workers, members of the public, and the environment. We’ve been involved in licensing some of the highest visibility and largest projects over the past ten years, including Yucca Mountain Monitored Geologic Waste Repository and the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Project. Also, our staff has served in lead roles for radioactive and hazardous waste licenses.

We have successfully interacted with NRC and Agreement State regulators during review of license applications, responding to specific requests for additional information. When required, we have participated in public meetings and interacted with stakeholders during the licensing process. Specific activities we can assist you with include:

  • Completion of NRC or Agreement State application form
  • Communication with NRC or Agreement State regulators to track the progress during the license application evaluation process
  • Preparation of your Radiation Safety Program Manual
  • Preparation of all Standard Operating Procedures relevant to your radiation safety program
  • Discounted initial Radiation Safety Officer training for your RSO
  • On-site initial radiation worker training prior to receipt of license, as appropriate

Our experienced staff have long-standing relationships with the regulators and are very familiar with their expectations. We are ready to help you navigate the often-turbulent waters encountered in the licensing process, and the safe operation and maintenance of your licensed program.
