Mark Fishburn Named Local Health Physicist of the Year

RICHLAND, Wash. – Dade Moeller & Associates, Inc., today announced that Richland-based employee Mark R. Fishburn, CHP, has been named Health Physicist [radiation protection specialist] of the Year by the Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society. He was honored by the Chapter at its annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Clarion Hotel Richland.

“Being named Health Physicist of the Year is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Chapter member,” explained Dade Moeller & Associates President Matthew P. Moeller, CHP. “This special honor recognizes Mark’s exceptional service and dedication to the profession of health physics.”

Fishburn is the 9th company employee to be honored as the local Chapter’s Health Physicist of the Year. Other honorees include Jack Fix, Bill Kennedy, Matt Moeller, Tracy Ikenberry, Steve Merwin, Ellen Wright, Pam Tranbarger and Susan Winslow.

A Senior Health Physicist at Dade Moeller & Associates, Fishburn has 15 years of experience in a broad range of health physics topics. His expertise has benefited the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in the areas of environmental restoration, radiological characterization, internal and external dosimetry, radiation shielding, air sampling, radiological training, program and field assessments, emergency response, and contamination control. Currently, he manages a group of health physicists in ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of radiation dose reconstructions performed under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. A 15-year resident of the Tri-Cities, Fishburn also serves as Treasurer of the Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society.
